Abstract

Syphilis is a multisystemic infection caused by Treponema pallidum bacteria. Despite the availability of preventive strategies to identifying newborns risk, and the global decrease in its incidence, the Congenital syphilis continues to be a significant problem in both developing and developed countries. Although many health professionals in developed countries are aware of the dental characteristics of congenital syphilis, most have never seen a case or made the diagnosis, so the objective of this study is to demonstrate to health professionals the importance of understanding syphilis, so that can identify risk behaviors and intervention opportunities, and also promote educational interventions and identify the early diagnosis of syphilis/congenital syphilis, presenting characteristics and changes of early congenital syphilis and late congenital syphilis, as well as their diagnosis and treatment. Through this study, it is possible to demonstrate to health professionals the importance of understanding syphilis, helping to identify the disease and risk behaviors and opportunities for intervention.
