Probability and determinism: A conception of eternal life from a purely materialistic perspective

Abstract

Advances in physics, chemistry, biology, and other sciences seem to have favored a materialist conception of the world that, unfortunately, did not fit into the great hopes of Christianity. The purpose of this brief essay is to discuss how two respectable hypotheses (one microcosmic and the other macrocosmic) can be combined to lead to the surprising conclusion that it would be acceptable to consider the possibility of resurrection and eternal life from a purely materialist perspective. This is a qualitative, reflective essay. From a purely materialist perspective, Christianity's hopes for resurrection and eternal life may indeed seem quite plausible, especially considering that reality is always richer than any theory science can construct to understand it.
