Abstract

The years 2020 and 2021 were marked by the pandemic of the disease caused by the new coronavirus (Covid-19), with the arrival of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The disease was spread in a very large proportion throughout the world, and in this scenario, several countries began to research ways of control. In search of pharmacological options for the treatment of Covid-19, some drugs that were already established on the market were investigated and supposed as possible prophylaxis and treatment options of Covid-19, such as ivermectin. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the knowledge of academics on aspects related to the use of ivermectin, such as prevention and/or treatment of Covid-19, through a cross-sectional and descriptive study with application of a questionnaire. According to the data collection, the results showed that most academics reported that they do not believe that ivermectin has any action in preventing the infection of the virus, that they know what the indication of this drug is and that they did not use ivermectin as prophylaxis. Thus, this study made it possible to assess the interviewees' knowledge about drug-related aspects, being important for the development of actions aimed at health education, with the aim of promoting the rational use of drugs and warning about self-medication.
