Mucocele in the lower lip: Clinical case

Mucocele is a common lesion in the oral cavity. The lesion is benign and presents as an increase in volume in the region due to an obstruction of the duct of the salivary glands involved. Its etiology in most cases is associated with local trauma and parafunctional habits. The most frequent site of its development is the lower lip, followed by the belly of the tongue and the jugal mucosa. This paper aimed to perform an updated review on oral mucocele, make a brief comparison of treatment methods, and report a clinical case of mucocele in a 20-year-old male patient complaining of a blister on the lower lip. The treatment of choice was complete conventional surgical excision of the lesion and the affected minor salivary gland. The authors concluded that conventional surgical excision is a safe and effective method, avoiding recurrence of the lesion.
