Abstract

The aesthetic plastic surgery has evolved significantly over the years, however it only gained recognition a few decades ago, more precisely during the First World War. People do not seek cosmetic surgery just to change their external appearance, but also to change their psychological aspects related to their own body (body self-image), reinforcing the therapeutic concept that aims at the psychological well-being of patients. The COVID-19 virus caused a global impact, which provoked millions of deaths all over the world. After approximately three years of post-pandemic life, it is appropriate to link this period to the present work, which addresses issues with regard to plastic surgery for aesthetic purposes, developed in a private medical clinic in the city of Cascavel in Paraná, Brazil. This article was developed through questionnaires applied to patients who underwent medical consultation in this clinic on a period between 2021 and 2022, whit the intention to understand which were the principal choices and reasons about to undergo a cosmetic procedure, if the pandemic influenced in the answers and with procedures were more required. The data were analyzed and assimilated with revision of articles from the data bank from PubMed, Scielo and Academic Google.
