The present study aims to review the literature on the effectiveness of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) as an adjuvant treatment in the postoperative period of third molar extractions. For this, an integrative literature review was carried out, structured in six distinct stages, previously established, through virtual access to the MEDLINE databases via PubMed and VHL. After bibliographic searches, a total of 40 publications were identified, from which, after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, ten articles were selected. Based on the reviewed literature, it can be seen that LLLT has important effective therapeutic actions in the adjuvant treatment to reduce post-extraction morbidities of third molars, among which the analgesic potential and the reduction of local edema and trismus stand out. However, some studies differ as to their effects and this fact is mainly due to the lack of standardization of the clinical protocol used in the research. In this sense, further studies should be carried out with a focus on standardizing the intervention protocol as an irradiation parameter, study design, time and places of LLLT application, thus allowing more objective conclusions to guide clinical practice.
