Abstract

This article presents the application of 3D capture technology to tattoo planning, demonstrating its effectiveness in anticipating distortions and composition errors on complex body surfaces. Developed by tattoo artist Walison Eça, the method combines computer graphics and artistic expertise to offer clients a realistic, three-dimensional visualization of the artwork before any ink is applied. The process is structured in three stages (sketch, realistic 3D photomontage, and final artwork on the 3D model) with active client participation. Observed outcomes include higher predictability, smooth planning across complex anatomical regions, and increased client confidence particularly for cover-ups and scar integration. We conclude that 3D capture represents a planning breakthrough and a body respectful approach, bringing tattoo practice closer to medical and aesthetic fields in terms of visual precision.
